Year of the Snow

Screw being the Year of the Horse, 2014 is the Year of the Snow.  So.  Much.  Snow.  These pictures are from the first snowpocalypse and extreme cold we had this year.  The cold and blustery winds are upon us again and quite frankly I (and the little long dog Simon) are sick of it.  I hope it's warm wherever you are, like really really warm, and Simon wishes he were with you...

meet the little brother ::: simon lawrence

today everyone gets to meet our little weeny, simon.  he was born on april 20, just like my momma.  he came into our life this past summer when i had the crazy 'we-need-a-second-pup' impulse and my mom agreed and four hours later we came home with a little tiny adorable simon.

simon loves his older brother shiner and they are pretty much inseparable now.  when one gets in trouble, the other follows.  both to the trouble and back into their houses for punishment time.  they keep each other company during the day and i'm sure have hilarious conversations lounging in their houses together.

shiner's down fall is reluctance to learn to be potty trained.  i am sure that most of this attribute falls on the mr. and i as we had a lot more time and patience with shiner, but he just. won't. get. it.  we passed the pee hump but apparently pooping outside is just too cool for this pup.

aside from the potty training annoyance, simon is one of the greatest little cuddler's known to man.  sometimes a little too much.  his favorite thing to do is to run around the living room, jumping on and off the couch, and then jumping into your face and rubbing his neck on yours.  hardcore.  like a weird eskimo kiss.  he likes it when you do it back to him too.

simon is our crazy middle child.  he's the odd duck, the funky penguin.  sometimes he can be the most annoying thing on the planet, but our lives would not be complete without him.  i know shiner's wouldn't.  so for now, and for always, we'll keep this little weeny.  little simon weeny.

meet the big brother ::: shiner devon

sundays around here are lazy days, catching up on the jersey shore (don't judge) and hanging out with our animal babies.  because of this, i am dedicating most sundays on the blog to our precious furry friends and all their quirks and oddities they bless (and curse) us with.

without further ado, meet SHINER!  our first born cuddly miniature schnauzer that has most definitely made our life better.  way way better.  (the mr. and shiner are hugging at this very moment.)

shiner's arrival was the result of watching the dogs 101 episode on schnauzers one too many times.  we knew we wanted a pup and after the third viewing, i knew i wanted a schnauzer.  the next morning i bought a local ad paper before i went to babysit and by ten a.m. i had told a lady we would come to her house that night to see her litter of pups.  we wanted a male pup and she had two to choose from.  something drew me to shiner and since lee left the decision up to me, we said yes.
we had to wait two weeks before he could come to our house and we spent that time prepping for a puppy and buying him all sorts of treats and canine gadgets.  when we went to pick him up, he was so little and covered him poop.  yeah, poop.  the mr. took one look at him and said he didn't think we should pay for a dog covered in poop but i knew we needed to have him.  save him from the poop.  as soon as we were home he went in the bath, cleaned up nicely, and spent the night perusing his new home.  he had visitors and his favorite humans brought him more treats and more toys.
shiner made friends quickly but i think his absolute favorites are my grandparents that live next door.  his full name is shiner devon, named after my grandpa and i think that gives them a special bond.  they make sure that he gets treats from the table and doesn't feel left out when they drink mountain dew.  i have tried to explain that giving him people food isn't something we condone, but they're old and adorable and they're hard to say 'no' to.  what can you do?
a lot has changed since shiner's first days at home.  he lost an older brother (RIP cobra the cat) but gained two younger brothers that absolutely adore him (at least one does).  and he's only gotten more handsome by the day.

in a nutshell, that's shiner.  our first love.  he's hilarious, super soft and cuddly, and very obedient.  he'll be around the blog a whole lot more, so keep your eye out for his sweet beard!

ps. he is named after shiner beer made in shiner, texas.  yeah, we like the beer a lot.

i apologize...

to who?  mostly myself.

i feel like all i've been able to accomplish lately are scribbling lists.  lots and lots of lists.  and nothing gets cross off said lists.  it's just me, surrounded by bits of paper.

so, because right now this is all i can do (and a little is better than none, right self?), i leave the world with a list.

1. i am now the very, very proud owner of a macbook pro.  i tell myself that this will change my blogging habits, as i haven't had a working laptop in quite some time now.  i tell myself that it'll make me edit more pictures, commit to my flickr account, and all around, make more friends/be a better person on the internet. we'll see where that goes.

2. i am still the owner of two pups and right now, they require a lot of attention.  in the past week they have been toted here and there and everywhere for dr. visits and grooming appointments and to see people at the coffee shop.  in the past 48 hours shiner and i have been on 3 two-mile walks and he has been loving it (more on those two-mile walks in another post).  simon is getting the hang of living with us more and more each day, but he still loves to leave his mark in our hallway.  in some form.  at least every other day.

3. the coffee shop kind of consumes my life.  and when it doesn't, i seem to resting or cleaning the house or resting.  i like to rest.  now i rest with said macbook, which makes everything better.  at the end of august, school begins again and i will have no life.  (let's see how the blog looks then, shall we?  it will be alright, self, i promise!)

4. the boy and i have been going on date nights.  what?  i know.  mainly to the taco truck in a nearby town (i prefer to buy tacos only out of trucks these days.  so yum!) or to get groceries, but still.  very nice.  especially because he's been working late a lot and i miss that kid.  speaking of that kid, we have a wedding date!  it's may 19, 2012.  and i have (like, in my possession!) my dress.  yes, that's about all we know :).
(a lot of my life.  i dig it.)

i will be back soon, folks.  i am going to make sure of it.

simon lawrence.

one week ago yesterday we added the latest (but not always greatest- i forgot what work puppies were!) addition to our household: a miniature dachshund named simon.  preceding him is his older brother, a miniature schnauzer named shiner.  when we got shiner it was a whole ordeal: we jumped into the decision, picked the pup out, then had to wait three weeks for him to be "ready" to come home (at 8 weeks).  with simon, i mentioned the idea to lee, mentioned the idea to my mom, and three hours later, we had a puppy on our hands.  a very long puppy.

i was worried what shiner would think about this new lil dude.  i figured he'd be cool with him until he realized he wasn't leaving and then fighting for attention would be his biggest priority.  BUT I WAS WRONG!  these two LOVE each other, at least for right now.  i find them sleeping in shiner's house together and any move simon makes during the night, shiner is right there to see.

all is well in this house, except it kind of sucks getting up three times a night to take the pups out, but i'm used to it.  everyday he gets a little faster, a little more independent, and a little more used to our routine.  he is freaking adorable and it's safe to say... we all love him!  (ps. everyone asks if he's really purebred because of his markings.  he is.  it's called dapple and it's not too uncommon.)
